THE ROLE:
To be responsible to for the provision of nursing care for all residents and for maintaining a homely, supportive and stimulating environment to improve or sustain, as far as possible, the residents’ quality of life. To lead, support and coach a staff team, upholding and actively promoting their care values and philosophy so each day is the best it can be for residents and staff.
As Registered Nurse your role in leading the shift will champion the five guiding principles of first class care: SAFE, EFFECTIVE, CARING, RESPONSIVE, WELL-LED
Main Duties: The following list of duties serves as an illustration and is not exhaustive
Clinical care and shift management
- Ensuring all residents have full nursing assessments and an holistic, individual person-centred care plan which takes into account the individual’s preferences and preserves their dignity at all times. Be named nurse to allocated residents.
- Upholding and monitoring standards of resident personal care through staff guidance, supervision and review of communications, ensuring care plans are regularly evaluated.
- Communicating with residents’ relatives, GP and other agencies and multi-disciplinary teams, keeping them informed of any changes in the residents’ condition.
- Role modelling; acting at all times in a professional manner, leading by example, passing on knowledge to the team as appropriate.
- Responsible for the safe custody of drugs and their administration in accordance with the NMC Statement on the Administration of Medicines and Company policy.
- Ensuring your practice is compliant with infection control and prevention measures.
- Ensuring all resident areas are hygienic, safe and comfortable at all times.
- Organising the admission, discharge or transfer of residents and ensuring attention is paid to the safe custody of residents’ property.
Record keeping
- Maintain accurate and timely records and reviews in accordance with best clinical practice, Company policies and NMC’s standards on Record Keeping.
- Flag up any apparent omissions or errors in record keeping through careful observation and professional transparency.
Supervising and Mentorship
- Supervising and motivating the care staff and participating in their general training, development and their training for professional qualification. Promoting a positive culture where individuals are supported to achieve their best. Positive role modelling.
- Ensuring trained staff work within the NMC Code of Professional Conduct and Scope of Professional Practice.
- Liaising with and supporting day and night colleagues.
- Participating in meetings with the Nurse Manager and consulting with them and updating them as appropriate.
Training and Development
- Keeping your own training up to date; undertaking training and assessment including all update training as required to enable you to safely and legally carry out your duties.
- Fulfilling revalidation requirements and the NMC’s Professional Conduct requirements. Keeping professionally updated and aware of developments in nursing practice, theory and research.
Compliance
- Taking personal responsibility in becoming fully aware of Health & Safety at Work Policies in particular Fire Procedures, Control of Infection, COSHH and Moving and Handling Policies.
- Aware of all regulations regarding the health and safety of residents and staff and reporting and recording all accidents, incidents and complaints.
- Assisting in ensuring the security of all residents and the premises through the observance of security procedures and the challenging of any strangers in the Home.
- Other reasonable duties as may be required in the proper course of your job.
THE CANDIDATE:
PERSON SPECIFICATION
Essential: Recognised Nursing Qualification and valid NMC Registration at suitable grade
Previous recent and relevant nursing experience in a care setting ideally managing
care of older people and physically disabled adults.
Experience of organising and supervising staff on shift.
